I'll be useing the two images of Jojo below. Click the thumbnails below to get the full sized images:
1. Open up your images in GIMP.
2. Now, make a new canvas (File >> New) large enough to fit both of your images.
3. Now, on your new canvas, go to "Layers" >> ""New Layer" and click "ok in the properties box. Now copy your first image and paste it into the canvas by right clicking the canvas and selecting "Edit" >> "Paste". Make another new layer and paste the second image. Then, useing your mouse, move the images around the canvas so that they are in the position you want to blend them in. Here's what it should look like now:
4. Now, select the eraser and set the eraser properties to the ones I have below. (The spaceing is 1, if you can't see it.)
5. Now, select the layer you'd like to remove background from in your layers palette and begin to erase the unwanted background. After you've erased all the unwanted background, move the images so that the blend looks perfect. Here's what mine looks like:
6. If you have another image, select that layer and begin erasing all the unwanted background.
7. when your done erasing all the unwanted bacground and moving your layers to the right place, you should have a nice blend. Here's mine below (click on it to view it cull sized):
