What is colorizing? Colorizing is basically when you have a black and white photo and you wished that you could make it have colors. So, you're basically turning a black and white photo into a color photo!
A colorization is a photo that used to be black and white but is now color. Colorizing a photo is easier when it's just someone's face (but a big image of it), their whole body is hard. Colorizing takes at least about 10-20 min. to make. So sit tight!
1. Find a black and white photo you like. I'll be using a picture of Brenda Song. 2. Now go to Adjust > Colorize. This will be for the hair color. My settings are like below which makes my image's skin look like a orange tinge, but the hair looks normal. 3. Open up your selection tool that looks like a rope. Set it's settings like mine. 4. Start outlining all of the skin on your image. To remove selections, press Ctrl on your keyboard. To add, press Shift. It's easier to zoom in for the perfect outline. Go around the eyes and lips. 5. My final result of selecting came out to be good. =) How about you? 6. Ok, now go to Selections > Promote to Layer. Also..NEVER MERGE YOUR LAYERS UNTIL I SAY SO!! Rename your promoted layer skin.
Next, set your blend mode to soft light or something similar to that. Find a color for your skin and fill your selection, you may want to lower your opacity. My opacity is at 50. 7. Go back to the base/background. Now outline the lips. You must be on the background. Go around the teeth if you want them to stay white.
Promote that selection to a layer and rename it lips. Set the blend mode to color. Then pick a nice color. I'm choosing a pick. Fill the selection and drop the opacity a bit. 8. Do the same for everything else. Her eyes. Eye-shadow. Nails. Whiten her teeth. Add blush. Pinkin her gums, etc. I'll show you what I did for the eyes. 9. For her eye-shadow, do the same. I chose a green-ish color. 10. To make her teeth gross, outline them, promote to layer, rename teeth, set blend mode to multiply. To be whiter teeth, set the blend mode to dodge with an opacity of 6 (very low). 11. To maker her gums pink, do the same thing you did to the lips. But make the opacity much lower. 12. I'll teach you some tricks now. To make her eyes stand out more, add "eye-liner." Just outline the bottom of her eye and fill it with a dark color, setted to burn, really low opacity. 13. Now another trick. It's called "blush." Outline where you want the blush to go and then feather your selection by 50. 14. I worked on the nails, added color to the clothes, and this is my final product!
